Friday Favorites: Space Jam edition

  • Songza--I have to do a whole post for this app soon.  It's like Spotify but with their amazing concierge for music genres by mood.  90s Feel Good Hits are my jam!
  • Lobster Fest!--I think I love lobster mainly as a vehicle for butter, but I'm totally up for going to this...
  • This Buzzfeed article...although it makes me feel VERY old.  The current class of 2017 was born in 1999 you guys!!!!!??!?!
  • And THIS Buzzfeed also--specifically the ORIGINAL 1996 Space Jam website.  I mean...there are no words for how incredible this truly is.
  • These pants!  Any time comfy pants can be disguised as real pants, I'm all for it.
  • Oven Love Blog!  I've used some of Natalie's recipes, like for my orange creamsicles, and now we are featuring each other on our sites.  She's super creative with her recipes for all diet types--check her out!

Have a fab weekend!  You won't want to miss next week--a whole slew of posts to inspire your Labor Day parties!  Hasta!

Friday Favorite: Espanol!

Hola!  Me llamo Lauren.  Que tal?  Estoy muy bien, gracias!

I'm doing something I always wanted to do, you guys--I'm learning Spanish!  Well, starting to, at least.  I took Spanish in 5th + 6th grade, but then French in high school.  Living in LA, I really wish I was fluent in Spanish because 36.7% of our city speaks  it.

So when Parker told me about the Coffee Break Spanish podcast (of course he did), I started downloading it ASAP.  And it's amaaazing!

I started from the very beginning, which is the basics: greetings, name, where you're from, etc.   The format does make it really easy to learn so far.  Also, the hosts are Scottish, so they are super fun to listen to even when they are speaking in their normal accents.  I actually feel like Mark + Kara are my real-life buds already.  Plus, Parker and I love singing the theme song--you'll see what I mean.

If any of you are interested in learning Spanish (or they have other languages too), I highly recommend subscribing to the FREE podcast on their site HERE or on your mobile device!  It's easy to listen to while you're commuting, working out, washing dishes, or anytime you have a few spare minutes.

Buenas Tardes, amigos!  Hasta luego!

Friday Fave: I workouuuut...my brain

As you know, my hubby tends to find awesome apps and tell me about them.   And today's app is one I use almost every single day and I love it!  You may have heard about it--I feel like they sponsor lots of things these days so I'm always hearing ads for it...

Lumosity

"Your brain, just brighter."  I love that.  It's a workout for your brain, and I'm not kidding you, I can seriously tell a difference after using it for about 10 minutes a day for just a few weeks!

I have the free version, which lets you do 3 brain workouts per day and keeps track of your progress in a variety of categories: Speed, Memory, Attention, Flexibility, + Problem Solving.  Parker upgraded to the paid version, which adds additional features including 5 daily workouts and the ability to compare your results to others.  The free works great for me!

I KILL IT on the speed games, folks.  But I literally get an actual headache on this one game called Pinball Recall.  It's for Memory and Attention, and I'm legit awful at it--unless I do this weird blinking thing at the beginning to take a mental photograph of the pinball paddles to engrain them into my memory.  Total weirdo, I know.

Download the FREE app HERE on iTunes, or check out their WEBSITE with more info about the science behind Lumosity.

Then hit me up and let's chat about how crazy awesome our brains are!

Just a reminder that this post is not sponsored by Lumosity.  Westside Bestside receives no compensation from companies or brands we write about, unless specifically noted!

Friday Faves: a solid batch!

I guarantee I'll expand on some of these more later, but here's a handful of my current faves!

Gray Malin Photography

  • Gray Malin Photography:  (above) He does a series of beaches and oceans from above, and I really want to invest in one this year.  Our engagement, honeymoon, and everyday life have taken place on beaches that he's photographed, so there are several pieces of his I'd like to buy!
  • Dine LA: I'm SO late on this (what kind of a blogger am I?!) but you if you can go tonight, do it!
  • Santa Monica Pier Twlight Concerts: We went last night, and it's so fun.  We're big fans of the beach at night.  This goes through September 12th, so head on out and take a picnic!
  • The New Girl:  I know I'm late to the game on this one, but I saw the pilot and it didn't click with me.  But now I'm on board.  Schmidt?!  I mean...
  • Katy Perry: Part of Me:  Never thought a documentary about a pop star could change my life, but seriously this one did.  She's so talented, and it's a heartwarming/breaking look into a life of fame.  I have a whole new respect for her.  Netflix stream that ish.
  • Beth Moore studies:  I'm on my second study now--James: Mercy Triumphs--and these are SUCH a blessing to me.  It's amazing!  I learn so much; they are seriously like taking a class on the Bible.
  • Heads Up App Game from Ellen:  A classic party game in app form.  The best part is it records your game and it's hilarious to watch back!
  • The Art of Clean Up:  I want this book!  Saw it in a bookstore, and if you have any ounce of OCD, please look at it.  The alphabet soup one is amazing.
  • 40 Days of Dating:  A verrry interesting social experiment where 2 friends date for 40 days...Can't.stop.reading.

Have a great weekend, and I'll see you back on Monday!  Mmmwah!
